When did Lenin implement War Communism?
@Audrey . . . War Communism was implemented from 1917 through 1921. WWI and the 1917 Revolution, brought widespread destruction to Russia’s capitalist economy. The Communists, upon seizing power, sought to transform Russia’s economic system from capitalism to communism. The government nationalized mines, factories, railroads and land, and prohibited private ownership. War communism proved a failure. Government officials lacked the knowledge and skill necessary to direct the economic system; factory workers lacked the ability to manage the plants and keep up production; farmers refused to maintain output, since the state took the surplus crops without paying the farmers. By 1921, Russia was in economic chaos. There were shortages of foodstuffs, even widespread famine, and great scarcities of manufactured goods.
