GFCIs were required for outdoor receptacles in 1973 (the requirement appeared in the 1971 edition with an effective date of 1/1/1974); for bathrooms, 1975. Grounding-type receptacles were required for all 15- and 20-ampere receptacle outlets appears in the 1971 edition with an effective date of January 1, 1974.
