I’m going to Germany for a week in April. I’m going to be staying with a family friend who recently lost one of their sons. However, here are some guidelines that might help soften the impending cultural clash. Generally, people will understand if you make a mistake. Don’t worry, they have been abroad and made such mistakes themselves. If you are in Germany for business purposes it might be sensible to do some extra research. Germans are extremely environmentally conscious and separate their garbage to facilitate recycling. If your neighbors spot you throwing recyclable glass or paper into the regular garbage, your relationship could be strained for good.
