Donald Johnson of Plainfield was convicted Friday of first-degree aggravated manslaughter, conspiracy to commit murder and other offenses in the March 14, 2006, shooting death of Robert Codys. Codys, also of Plainfield, was not a gang member, authorities said. The day of the shooting, Johnson — a member of the Clinton Avenue Posse — and two accomplices, had left a memorial service for a fellow gang member killed three years earlier, the prosecutor’s office said. Kellen Norris was out driving around town with his girlfriend on the night of May 29th. His mom said he had taken a semester off of college to save up enough money for a car. After months of saving, he bought a 1995 Buick Roadmaster. He owned the Buick for about three months and loved to drive it all over the city. His mom said he would even down to Galveston and back. But on this May night, Norris almost got into a car accident. Even though a collision was avoided, investigators believe the near miss cost him his life. That night, Norris was driving down Airline when two men in a brown pickup truck pulled out of a bar parking lot and almost hit Norris’ car. Police reports say Norris tapped his horn to avoid hitting the truck. That simple act was enough to enrage the driver. The truck began chasing Norris’ car.
