When did Dish Network begin using Nagra 3?
Dish Network has begun using Nagra 3 already. On December 17th, 2008 International channels began the process of switching over to Nagra 3 encryption. On April 6th, 2009, Adult Channels 491-497 switched over to Nagra 3. On May 20th, HD channels began switch to Nagra 3 and on May 28th, most premium movie channels and a large chunnk of standard channels were switched to Nagra 3. EchosStar is preparing to implement Nagra 3 on all remaining Dish Network programming channels. Charlie Egren, the founder of Echostar stated in a conference call in December 2008 that he expected N3 to be active on International and HD programming within the first quarter of 2009, but did not expect a complete switchover to Nagra 3 on all Dish Network channels until the end of the third quarter in 2009. That timeline is not written in stone and appears to happening at a much faster pace than expected.
