When did comic books become popular?
In their present form, as distinct from Newspaper comic strips- Comic books did not reach maturity as a medium until the coming of Superman (Action Comics) in l938. Marvel comics was much later, thought hte character Captain Marvel was originally a DC character, later retitled (Shazam) his magic word was an acronym based on various Greco-Roman gods with Solomon thrown in- hence Solomon, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury! the last one cojming in handy for catching the #80 Bus- 80 is the Atomic Number of Mercury! N”uff said. Oh I forgot Hercules so the Shazam acronym is Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, Mercury!=-SHAZAM!
