Answer Hi there. Sorry for the delay in answering your question. I was unexpectedly out of town for Thanksgiving weekend. You said you were planning on doing a thematic unit for eighth graders using three books. I would say one month per book is very appropriate. You will be able to address many topics depending on the length of each book. A good way to approach this would be to divide the books up by the number of weeks in each month. Then you will be able to get an idea of how much reading the students will be doing and be able to plan lessons accordingly. I would create lessons that build off each book. For example, in the first book students will need to be able to identify the theme, identify the problem %26 solutions, gather vocabulary, etc. Then on the second book the student would continue with previous lessons plus be able to compare/contrast the two books.
