Make sure your cables are in the correct input. If your using the RCA cables(yellow, white and red) and you have the cables in component input, you will get the black and white picture. Component needs to use 5 RCA cables (green, blue and red for video and white and red for audio). RCA cables would need to be in the AV input to get the color.
