When can we admitt new patients to a room that has been in negative air pressure?
Once the patient has been discharged, the negative pressure should remain in use until one hour after the patient has left the room. This is to ensure clearance of all infectious organisms. The cleaning staff may enter the room to clean, but should be wearing an N95 mask for the first hour. During this time frame, the room door must remain closed.
