When can my puppy sleep out of his crate during the night?

To keep him house trained – why would you want him to start sleeping out of the crate at all? It’s us as humans that decide the dog doesn’t want to sleep in the crate and would rather sleep in whatever room in the house. They like their crates – it’s a secure place for them to just let loose and sleep without worry. When my dog has slept outside of his crate, he never sleeps through the whole night. He always has to go to the bathroom or whatever else he wakes up for. Keeping the dog crated ensures I get at least 8 hours of sleep on the weekends! I have a friend who breeds dogs and all her dogs sleep in crates until the mommas hit their senior years. Then she allows them to sleep outside of them – at that point though, the dog really will sleep through the night because seniors aren’t so easily distracted. As far as your pup waking up at 5:45am to go to the bathroom – he’s 5 months old and probably can only hold his bladder for about 6 hours right now.
