When can kittens be weened?
Dear Raccoon, Usually kittens are weaned around 6 weeks. I assume you are keeping MaMa cat too. The kittens will continue to nurse from MaMa as long as she will let them or as long as her milk supply lasts, which is stimulated by the nursing kittens. In the wild it isn’t unusual for a mother to let her young suckle over a year or longer, even when they have been eating meat their mother hunted for them. Your kittens are old enough now for you to introduce them to Kitten Chow Dry Food, which you can soften with KMR (kitten replacement milk) and you can introduce them to (good quality) canned cat food. I adopted a cat many years ago who was still nursing from her mom at 10 weeks and she was shall we say NOT petite and grew into a rather full figured cat at 26 pounds. It was no wonder we nick named her “The Boss”. Hope this helps you.
