When can i put rice cereal in my 6 week olds bottle?
Unless your doctor advises you to put rice cereal in your baby’s bottle because of severe reflux, then you shouldn’t. There have been studies that have shown early introduction of rice cereal and solids have increased the risk for allergies later in life. He can have rice cereal at 4-6 months of age but you need to feed it to him with a spoon, don’t put it in his bottle. It sounds like you are overfeeding your baby. Eleven ounces every couple hours for a 6 week old baby is too much. Just because a baby cries or wakes up does not mean he is hungry. Offer him a pacifier or try to soothe him in other ways and see if he can get on a 3-4 hour schedule. And twice a night isn’t all that bad for a baby. Good luck.
I don’t know of any medical organization, medical study, or infant nutrition expert who would say that it is okay to put cereal in his bottle. There is solid research that recommends AGAINST doing that for several reasons……choking hazard, risk of overfeeding, risk of filling him up on empty calories, stressing his digestive system, allergies, etc….. Of course, a lot of parents turn their nose up at this research and simply do what they want. As far as I am concerned, the risks are evident, the need does not exist, and the research is credible. I wouldn’t do it. ADDED: Even if giving him cereal did help with sleeping, which research shows that it does not, keep in mind that you are loading him up with what is basically a bunch of empty calories. Overloading an infant’s system with a heavy, digestive system-stressing substance that he does not need simply so he might sleep the way you think he should is a really bad practice, in my opinion. Most six-week old babies wake up at night
Actually studies have shown that you shouldn’t give your child anything but a bottle until the are 6 months or with the doctors permission. My sons eating solids at 5 months, but my doc told me too, otherwise I wouldn’t have started them. You never want to put cereal in a bottle, you want to feed it from a spoon, the reason being that your child needs to learn to associate food with a spoon and drink with a bottle, so by never offering food from the bottle you child will understand that you eat off of a spoon or fork. If your child is really eating that much then you can try calling the doctor and seeing if you can start cereal, but my opinion is that your childs digestive system is way to immature to handle cereal right now. You could just give him an upset belly and end up getting up with him more at night, thats what happened to my son.
Never. Rice shouldn’t be put in a bottle. It’s a choking hazard. It’s not even a necessity. It’s not even good for babies. It’s empty carbs and calories. Solids (anything other than breastmilk or formula) should not be given to baby until 6 months +. Their bodies are not ready for it. They don’t have the enzymes in their digestive systems to properly digest solids foods. Their intestinal tract is not fully formed and food particles can pass directly into the blood stream. This is not a “mother knows best” type of situation. This is not a time for you to listen to someone who says “I did it and my kid is fine”. This is a time to do proper research on studies done by medical professionals.
babies have tiny stomachs therefore NEED to wake up ever few hours…and this is what we sign up for when we have a baby… you shouldnt start babies on something like this before 6 months… no matter what anyone recomends you should listen to the tests that have been done on babies and eating; allergies, obesity and over stimulation is a result of feeding baby too much too soon. work with your baby.. every woman in history (some men too) have had to wake up to feed bubs… it doesnt last for too long… id suggest maybe givign him a top up just before you go to bed but unless he has teeth (to ‘chew’) he needs milk.
