When can a patient with C. diff come out of isolation?
Patients who have diarrhea caused by Clostridium difficile (C. diff) should remain in Contact Isolation until they are no longer symptomatic (no loose stools for at least 24 hours). Also remember C. diff is a spore, so the mechanical friction of soap and water is the only way to get rid of spores. Waterless soaps are not effective against spores. Nursing Alert! Please remember to place a contact sticker on the chart and a Contact sign out side the patients room any time a patient is put in isolation precautions. This will notify everyone that gowns and gloves need to be worn when in contact with the patient.
