When are two different names required on a car title?

There are only 3 times I can think of when it’s required. 1) if there is a loan that is in 2 people’s names, 2) if there was a car traded in on it, then someone on the old title must be put on the new one, and 3) if one person is a minor, then a parent must be on it (this varies from state to state though). Otherwise, it’s just a matter of personal choice to put more than one name on a title.
