When are the best times to purchase a Broadway ticket?

If you’re vacationing in NYC and are looking to catch a Broadway show, the best thing to do for bargain tickets is to rush them the day of the performance you’d like to attend. Usually the rush ticket lines start in the morning/afternoon time frame in front of the box office for shows for the very same evening.

Considering Broadway tickets (even at their cheapest) run around ~$65 for weekends, you can rush tickets for about $20 each which gives you major savings, and perhaps will give you really good seats. The chance you take is that you might not get any tickets – it all depends on availability.

In general, matinee and weekday evening (Monday through Thursday) performances have greater ticket availability than Friday or Saturday evening performances. It’s always a good idea to purchase your tickets well in advance of the performance date. Still, don’t assume any particular performance is sold out – additional tickets occasionally become available at the last minute!
