When and why did the anti-Vietnam protest movement finally begin to subside?
The end came early in 1970 when a US Government study recommended an end to the draft as a means to provide troops for the military services, recommending instead a voluntary enlistment basis. Mid year, 1971 Congress announced an end to the draft with an interim year, 1972, to draft a small number on a lottery basis. The protest movement lost support and momentum. In 1972 US ground combat in Vietnam ended.
