When and why did military ships stop having cats on board- and are they still carried unofficially?
Ships dont have cats anymore this practice stopped shortly after ww2. No they are not carried unofficially. Health regulations and the risk of spreading diseases like rabbies and similar brought in regulations about animals onboard ships. Northern Ireland patrol boats used to carry dogs but these were embarked in Northern Ireland and were disembarked before leaving those waters on no occasion did the dogs travel with the ship to another country. I think you will find that no ships that travel to other countries have animals on board as pets.
