When and where did the Master Gardener Program begin in Georgia?
The Georgia Master Gardener Program was started in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1979 as a means of extending the educational outreach of the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension. Master Gardeners serve many roles in aiding the Cooperative Extension agent deliver educational horticultural programs and information. The Georgia Master Gardener Program is designed to develop highly skilled volunteers that agree to volunteer a minimum of 50 hours of service in exchange for 40 hours of horticultural training by Extension service professionals.
