When and in what circumstances did Moser Baer enter the optical media segment?
Moser Baer was a late entrant into the CD-R (compact disc-recordable) business, trailing the competition by two years. Our entry into optical media was a result of intense research to choose the next product after our success with the 3.5″ floppy diskette. At that time, we had a couple of choices the magneto-optical media market, the optical media market or sticking to the 3.5″ pure magnetic media market. The 3.5″ diskette still made sense since no new stable medium was immediately available, and the lifecycle of the disk improved.
