When and how was the red fox brought to Australia?
The European red fox is believed to have been introduced to Australia around the Geelong area for recreational fox-hunting in 1871. It reached Queensland by 1910, and by the following year was also sighted in Western Australia. It was, of course, brought over by ship as there was no other alternative for making sea-crossings.
