When and how should Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks be carried out?
The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), an executive agency of the Home Office provides access to criminal record and other relevant information to organisations in England and Wales. If as part of your research you will be working with children or vulnerable adults, you should request that the University obtains a CRB check on your behalf. An individual cannot apply for a CRB check directly. The CRB offers two types of check, standard and enhanced: Standard CRB check Standard CRB checks are primarily for posts that involve working with children or vulnerable adults. Standard checks may also be issued for people entering certain professions, such as members of the legal and accountancy professions. Enhanced CRB Check Enhanced checks are for posts involving a far greater degree of contact with children or vulnerable adults.
