When an asian knows how to speak english or any european language…?
Anytime someone learns a language as different from their own as English is from Asian languages, I’m impressed. The people who take that for granted usually can’t speak a word of any other language. But yeah, I think it’s cool when somebody raised in a culture that puts down other languages as inferior takes the time to learn how to speak in another language. I wouldn’t say I’m “fascinated” by it because I grew up in a household where my mother’s family was bilingual. Personallly, I think all kids in the US should learn another language along with English. It works in Canada, and learning how another nation speaks gives insight into how they think. Americans have the worst reputation in the world for being ignorant about other cultures, and there’s no good reason for that. It’s silly to think your own country is “the best” when you don’t know what you’re comparing it to. …don’t get me started on deliberate ignorance…
