When am I allowed to bill for administrative tasks related to managing complex workers compensation cases?
Some administrative services are and have been reimbursable by BWC. Here are some examples: Occasionally MCO case managers attend appointments with injured workers and wish to consult with the physician(s) regarding the case following the injured workers’ exam(s). The CPT codes (99358 and 99359) describing these services are classified as Prolonged Physician Services Without Direct (Face-to-Face) Patient Contact. Often a physician proactively contacts the MCO case manager or the BWC Claims Service Specialist (CSS) to discuss case issues or to provide information over the phone per requests from the case manager or CSS. The physician may also need to consult by telephone with other providers participating in the care of the injured worker. The CPT codes describing these services (99371, 99372 and 99373) are classified as Case Management Services-Telephone Calls.
