When Alexei Romanov was diagnosed with hemophilia why didn Nicholas and Alexandra try again (so to speak)?
This is without reckoning on a Bolsheviek uprising of course. Alexei had Haemophila B – which is manageable after a fashion (by transfusion) but medicine was not so advanced and they relied on the spiritual intervention of Rasputin – they may well have tried for another heir (his mother was 32 when she had him) but he was the first boy after four girls so the likliehood of producing a ‘spare’ to go the the heir seems small.. His disease did however drive the family into the orbit of the Mad Monk, whose influence was a major contribution to the downfall of the Romanovs – not least Nickolas’s decsions to take over the army – thus reducing their collective life expectancy.
