When a personal firewall is used such as ZoneAlarm, uninstalling the program causes the uninstaller to request network access. Why is this necessary and can it be avoided?
This is something that was done to maintain consistency between all the Windows platforms. Uninstall sends a msg to the WhatChanged® service to stop and since Win 98 does not have services, background program cannot be treated as service. This message being sent is causing the request for network access.
