When a parent dies?
It’s refreshing to see someone is looking ahead and trying to be able to do the right thing should one of your parents die. I think it’s also important to get them both to sign Power of Attorney over to you in the event of them not being well enough to do things for themselves. Everyone makes wills and I think PofA’s are just as important. My mother had a severe stroke and all her bank accounts were frozen as she wasn’t capable of knowing what to do. It took us 6 months to get a Consultant to sign on her behalf so we could get her affairs in order. My ex-husband was in a similar situation and my kids were running around like headless chickens trying to pay his bills as they couldn’t access his bank accounts. It would be wise to ask your parents what they would want to do in the event of one of them passing away. They might surprise you. With regards to a private nursing home, I would suggest you contant the local Council as they have their own homes, which also take in private resident
