When a mom wants to change over from exclusive breastfeeding to postpartum in the second month, does she have to recertify?
Response: No. Her category needs to change from B to N if she is no longer breastfeeding, and risk codes (if necessary, depending on current risk codes) and food package code need to be changed. If mom’s category is changed to postpartum, her breastfeeding food package must be void and replaced with a postpartum food package after the category change. If she is changing from exclusively breastfeeding to some breastfeeding (infant receives > 50% formula package – the formula package), only her food package has to change.
