When a football face mask is replaced under the guidelines of the manufacturer, does a helmet lose its certification?
No. The NOCSAE Football Helmet Standard does not include the testing of helmets with face masks. If, in the attachment of a mask, procedures other than those recommended by the manufacturer are used, then it is the discretion and responsibility of the institution and its employees to determine if the helmet should be submitted for recertification.
