Whatt qualifications do i need to become a quantity surveyer?
You’ll need to be proficient in maths and english with an interest in construction, construction law, and accounting. A degree in a subject such as civil engineering, building, or surveying would be a good start. Quantity surveying is rather more than just measurement of quantities. It’s more about creative accounting, getting money early, paying money late, and generally making money by bending the rules as far as the contract allows. To do that you naturally have to understand a lot about contract law and sharp business practice in general. You need a certain twisted competitive mentality to be a good surveyor (ie one who can make money for her company). It’s not a job for everyone or even a job for someone who likes measurement, There are ways and means of measuring things!
