Prison would be worse as you won’t have your freedom (even within a closed mental hospital you would be treated as a patient rather than an inmate). It would mean your standard of living inside the hospital would be more humane (you could have more I suspect) and so on. My question is more about the low standard of your psychiatrist for even suggesting such a thing to you. I get the feeling (s)he probably said more to you than just that? ie if your conduct disorder led to you committing crimes of some kind, otherwise you should be getting adequate treatment rather than being told such rubbish IMHO. And besides, unless a person is dangerous, which I doubt you are, then mental health is better treated within the community and here in the UK at least, mental hospitals aren’t as common as they used to be, thank goodness.
