What’s with the shift in cover artists between the original Pyr edition of Infoquake and the Solaris edition?

Pyr and Solaris made the joint decision to change directions on the series covers in an attempt to give the series better traction with science fiction audiences. (Read: the major book chains didn’t like the original cover.) I liked the original cover just fine, but I have to admit I’m wildly ecstatic about the new cover, painted by the great Stephan Martiniere.
