What’s with the conformance profiles?
RLUS is nothing if not comprehensive. For that reason, there is a need to define minimum conformance levels that are achievable. This minimum conformance profile generally corresponds with the “location” portion of functionality. RLUS defines two other levels of conformance profiles that are more complex – “Access” and “Updating.” There are several beneficial consequences: 1) An organization may create an RLUS compliant service, but only interoperate at a minimum level 2) An organization may stand up an RLUS compliant service, but interoperate with different organizations according to different conformance profiles. The conformance profiles, then, provide a basis for potential Service Level Agreements that will facilitate cooperation and understanding. 3) The conformance profiles roughly correspond to certain logical security levels – Retrieving metadata, retrieving resources, updating resources.
