Whats with the Avatars??
Theoretically, I like the idea of being able to switch out avatars leisurely to reflect my mood or whim, and I’m glad to see people taking advantage of the option. This way the site is more whimsical, and we see a lot of creativity coming from the “switchers”. BUT….there are definite downsides to switching – hence why my little blue blinky guy remains. Much more than your screenname, you are most easily identified on this site by your Avatar. It’s like seeing a familiar face. So since I like to be easily recognizable, I stay the same with only the ocassional variation for specific holidays or rare moods. Plus, around here if people know you you tend to get pleas to keep your avatar as the same ol’ face. No, a blue blinky blob doesn’t really reflect much about me as a person (although I have been known to blink)…but it’s a good all-weather avatar that (to me) isn’t too annoying. It’s neutral enough for serious questions and silly subjects alike, and it’s fairly unique. So it looks l
