The infected tomatoes are coming from mexico, the same place where previous salmonella outbreaks of lettuce came from. I’d be willing to bet that the salmonella outbreak was caused by the same thing that caused salmonella in the lettuce (the workers would literally go to the bathroom in the fields causing the outbreak).
