What’s up with the crazy, vengeful stripper names?
Well, I don’t know how familiar you are with old school roller derby, but in the ’60’s through the ’80’s they were stacking stadiums and they all had derby names. Now with the resurgence of roller derby, there are aspects of it we kept and some we didn’t. That’s one of the things we kept. It’s really just a fun persona. Does that go hand-in-hand with the ability to pick your own numbers? Yes, you get to pick your name and your number, and there’s a national database to get it approved. So if someone around the country is using the same name, you have to get permission from them to use it. So how did you come up with the name, Triple Deck-Her? It’s a Boston thing – I live in a triple-decker. Once I realized I was gonna play roller derby, I had polls going to pick a name. Jamaica Pain was also a favorite, but for me it was about: what do I like and what’s gonna work for me? Ultimately, I decided that was too localized and they might not get it outside of Boston.
