Whats up with OPIE and SSH?

Telnet is the most common method of connecting to Unix machines. Unfortunately, it is very insecure and so you can’t simply telnet into ESAM. You can either use SSH or OPIE, detailed below. SSH is basically a more secure version of telnet and is the preferred connection method. The client is installed on most Unix machines and you can find out more information on obtaining a Windows SSH client, complete with sftp capabilities, here. While traveling, you may find putty, the small Windows SSH client useful. You may also find the Java SSH applet useful when traveling. Note: Your Windows must have Sun’s Jave JRE installed. As of Windows 2000, this is no longer part of the stock installation. OPIE is a one-time password algorithm. It is designed to allow you to securely connect using the basic telnet program. Of course, since it uses an insecure program, you have to do more work to get it to work.
