Whats up with all the different types of protein?
Different proteins digest at different speeds and are derived from different sources. The most commonly used source for supplemental protein is from milk. Some protein is slow digesting such as casein, where whey concentrate and whey isolate are fast digesting. Each is good at any time, but right after your workoput is a good time to get the fast digesting protein so your body, it is absorbed quicker for recovery where the slow digesting protein is good for having a steady supply throughout the day. There are also vegetable based proteins that come from soy or peas, these tend to be slow digesting. Men should not use soy protein (a plant based estrogen source) exclusively as that it may block testosterone receptors. There are many different sources of protein but these are just a few of the most popular sources. I would recommend balancing your protein source between supplemental sources as well as solid food sources such as, beef, chicken, fish, eggs, dairy etc.
