What’s to stop people from lying about what they earn?
Initially – nothing. LiveSalary is a free community-based site that works on an honesty system. The equation is simple: People accept our request for honest salary survey completion … = the more accurate the salary data we receive … = the more useful the data … = the more benefit everyone receives from the site. It’s that simple. There is really no incentive for contributors to mislead people about what they earn. Any bogus or inconsistent salary entries can be ‘flagged’ as suspicious by other members of the community and disabled by the system, helping the LiveSalary team to ensure the quality of data is maintained. LiveSalary also makes use of the median (as opposed to the average) to report cumulative salary results, helping to lessen the impact of any ‘extreme’ salary entries.
