Whats this about newbies typically over filling the oil?
Why would you spend so much money for a nice bike and not read the manual first? The BRP utilizes a dry-sump engine, meaning that when it is running, the oil is stored in the frame. The dipstick is located in the highest point in the system, so if you check the bike cold,all the oil has seeped back into the cases and you will get a low reading. If you add the 1/2 qt needed to show on the stick, you are now 1/2qt over on a 2qt system.
