Whats there to do in Hilo?
– Hilo offers tourists a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the major cities in the Hawaiian Islands. Unlike Kahului, Maui and Honolulu, O’ahu, Hilo is as laid back as a town can get. – Downtown Hilo is historic for the tsunami (tidal wave) that swept through the area in 1960 and 1946. Since then, the Pacific Tsunami Museum has been built and is a nice place to visit. In addition, Downtown Hilo offers a nice farmer’s market for those who are interested in fresh fruits and other assorted agricultural goods. The farmer’s market usually takes place on weekends. Downtown Hilo also offers the historic S. Hata Building which has survived the two tsunamis (tidal waves). This happens to be one of Hilo’s most historic buildings. – Akaka Falls is one of closer attractions to Hilo. Akaka Falls is in fact pictured above. Many have described the falls as picturesque and beautiful. You will need to hike to get to the falls, so be prepared to bring a good pair of hiking shoes. – Kilauea Volcano
