Whats the whole story behind “Cross(ing) The Rubicon?
The Rubicon was a river that marked the northern boundary of the city of Rome. The Senate that governed Rome was all too aware that its generals, such as Caesar were popular with the people and ambitious. To try and prevent generals from marching their armies into Rome and taking over by force, the Senate ruled that the returning general had to leave his army on the far bank of the River Rubicon stating that if a general disobeyed it would be an act of treason. Well, it worked as a deterrent for some time and then, one day, a general crossed the Rubicon, a move from which there was no turning back. He had committed himself to rebellion against the Senate.
