Whats the upcoming solar storm all about?
There is no “upcoming solar storm.” Astronomers don’t use the term “solar storm.” There are flares on the surface of the Sun which happen all the time. When one of these is severe, it may trigger a coronal mass ejection. If this is pointed in the right direction, it may reach Earth. This may cause an aurora (northern and southern lights). It may also interfere with the electric grid or satellites: this has happened only _once_ in the past century, in 1986. You’ll notice that there are a lot of “ifs” and “mays” in the above. That’s because problems caused by the Sun are exceedingly rare. I wish Michio Kaku would confine his remarks on Fox News to subjects he knows something about.
