Whats the toe claw for and why don other manufacturers include them?
A. We don’t know why other traction systems don’t include toe claws as a standard feature; its only logical to have them because your toes are where most of your traction occurs. They are the last thing to leave the snow before your next step as you push off from one foot to another. When your toe claws are engaged, the ball-claw of your foot is disengaging and it is no longer fully effective. That occurs whether you have a toe claw or not, so without toe claws you are losing a great deal of your foot’s efficiency. The toe claw is also what gives you the ability to climb; toes are what hold you to the ground, that’s why climbing boots are built with the sole all the way over the top of the toes. The toe claw function is as important, or more, as any other claw or cleat on the shoe. Without it, the traction system is incomplete. And yet, Crescent Moon’s snowhoes are the ONLY major shoe manufacturer that includes a toe claw as a standard feature on all of its models.
