Whats the story on messages etched on vinyl records?
The etching usually tells you the category number. Sometimes they are found on first pressings and promotional copies. Sometimes the artist requests comments be etched on the records (for example “FIJIS” can be found on some Jan and Dean records, it was the name of Jan’s fraternity at UCLA) . Sometimes the record company puts notes on the records. It all depends on the individual record.
