Whats the story behind the Hells Highway battle — Operation Market Garden?
During Hell’s Highway, they were essentially trying to open a quick and dirty back door route to the Rhine. It was a dicey proposition to begin with. The American Airborne went forward to try to land in Holland and essentially create a corridor for the British Armor to come running up and get to the Rhine establish a bridgehead, and eliminate all of the Western fighting that Patton and the rest of the others had gotten involved with. Unfortunately, as Cornelius Ryan said, “It was a bridge to far.” The British did not come up with the speed that was expected and the thing fell apart and we were forced to pull back. In large measure, the game attempts to create that particular operation.
