Whats the story behind Lily The Lover and Magic Touch?
Lily The Lover is quite a simple tale – a girl who everybody is in love with and who is in love with everybody. But her love only ever lasts for a day. She ends up with a trail of broken hearts and eventually it gets so much that she throws herself off Waterloo Bridge. Magic Touch is a lot more general – about how strange it is when something really magic disappears so suddenly. It’s hard to pigeonhole your sound but how would you describe it? We just try to approach every song individually. I think a lot of great bands like The Beatles and Radiohead seem to amalgamate their influences and create something totally new out of it rather than presenting a definable sound. I’d like to hope that we could be approaching things in the same way. How big an influence are The Beach Boys and who else has inspired you? The Beach Boys were a really big influence when we were learning to sing harmonies. I spent hours working out those thick harmonies of those old mono recordings. Songwriting-wise, I
