Whats the status with the Wal-Mart store?
Red Phone: Wal-Mart was expected to make renovations to the old Target 80,000-square-foot building located at 170 Cochrane Plaza for an estimated $4 to $8 million. It was expected to open this winter, however, the big-box giant still needs a “building plan” check to receive its building permit, according to Garrett Toy, Morgan Hill’s Business Assistance and Housing Services director. What is a building plan check, you ask, caller. Good question. Toy said it means Wal-Mart’s construction drawings have been submitted for review by the city. Wal-Mart has also resubmitted drawings based on the city’s initial comments, so when the drawings have been approved, Wal-Mart will receive a building permit and begin construction. In other words, Wal-Mart has not started construction yet, but will begin before the end of the year. We’ll know better when it receives its building permit.
