Whats the state of computer science education in Ghana?
Zuckerman: There are two steps: university IT training and the Microsoft certification course. And then there’s step three: bridging the gap between certification training and the way you get work done in an IT shop. We work on the highest level to give people skills for their daily work as programmers. We’re also trying to work with the universities to help them get from step one to two, so they understand that it’s time to stop teaching Cobol; maybe they should teach Java, VB or C++. In Armenia and Mongolia, we offer classes and workshops on user interface design and large systems architecture. In Ghana, we complement the university by offering professional skills courses in cyber cafés.
