Whats the spirituality versus religion debate?
There is a difference between Spirituality and Religion. While they can exist together, they can also be quite separate. Typically, religion refers to a particular belief system shared by a group. The group in the majority of cases has a code of behavior and devotion with the understanding that there is an ultimate purpose to life. The deities of various religious groups may have different names and in some instances more than one “god figure” exists. Spirituality on the other hand can exist quite separate from religious practice. Spirituality is an individual expression of one’s belief system. An individual may consider them-selves spiritual without the need to be connected to a certain religious denomination. There are those who consider, for instance, communion with nature a spiritual experience. Spirituality is often looked at as the way an individual chooses to view the Universe and their role in it. It involves more introspection and contemplation and not necessarily following a particular religious doctrine.
