People usually don’t take time to reflect. We provide the opportunity to reflect on their lives in a non-threatening environment without being forced to do so by some tragedy. When people are involved in a tragedy or when someone becomes desperately ill or a loved one dies, they typically don’t go back to their life the way it was. They respond by making some kind of change switching jobs, or starting a new organization, or spending more time with their kids. That’s because if you have that little moment of clarity that this is the only life you get, and it’s fragile, almost everyone realizes they haven’t been making good choices. One of the things Ann and I try to do is create that moment of insight minus the tragedy. We also emphasize taking small steps.
